  3. You may be talking about "Fantastic, That's You", a quartet piece with Hines, Jimmy Hamilton, Aaron Bell, and Elvin Jones.
  4. I have the feeling that both of them did ok with those over the years.
  5. Some Louis Hot Fives from 1926
  6. That voice was still there.
  7. Earl Hines: Once Upon a Time
  8. A friend sent me this recently. James Cleveland recorded his version with the Gospel All Stars on the Apollo label in 1953. Ray Charles recorded "Hallelujah I Love Her So" in 1955. Interesting stuff.

  22. I seem to recall Chuck writing here or the BN Board that Booker Ervin had two solos - a fast one and a slow one.
  23. The Best of Doug Sahm & The Sir Douglas Quintet 1968 - 1972 (Mercury) Some of this wouldn't be my choices - though some would - still, some fine, fine music.
  24. Yeah - I did pick that up against my better judgement. I usually don't buy recordings that aren't authorized by the musician involved - especially if they're still living. I made an exception in this case, and I feel a little guilty when I listen to it.
  25. The first Sonny Rollins album I listened to (probably wasn't the best place to start for someone new to the music, but it worked out) and still a favorite. My copy's a mono. It was long enough ago that I didn't have a stereo player.
