  1. Some of my most favorite Zoot.
  2. Nice one! I heard him playing at a club in the 90's. Got a chance to speak with him and he signed my LP cover.
  3. I miss him and wish he'd return, but sometimes people just move on to other things and other places.
  4. Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants
  5. A classic that, for some unknown reason, I don't listen to often enough.
  6. Thelonious Monk: Genius of Modern Music Volume One
  7. Charles Atlas Mapp and Lucia Lucia Berlin
  8. Discogs lists the color cover as 1966 w. booklet liner notes by Elijah P. Holloway (John Fahey?) - white cover as 1967. I have no idea which is the original and don't care all that much. I'm in it for the music and am cool either way.
  9. I'm a Johnny Hartman fan too, and I like the Beehive album. I had a number of Beehive LPs and I think that this is the only one I've held onto.
  10. At one point, I had an album supposedly recorded live in Africa, but it was one of those phony "live" albums with overdubbed applause.
  11. I have the Ahura Mazda LP, which you probably have also. My copy of the Takoma is different from the one you posted - mine has some color on the cover - not sure which is original - and I mistook your post for the Ahura Mazda, which is black and white. Plus, as I say, I was tired last night. Anyway, it's all good and they're both good Robert Pete.
  12. Percy Sledge is my favorite soul singer. There were perhaps others who were stronger, but Percy always did it for me.
  13. Yeah. It's late and I got the labels mixed up. Apologies for that.
  14. Django: The Swing Sessions Volume 2 (Frog)
  15. Good one, Jeff. I have the 45 that was issued from these sessions too.
  16. Edmond Hall: Memorable Sessions on Blue Note
  17. Mingus: Jazz Portraits
  18. Milt Jackson: Ballads & Blues
  19. It was a really nice catch. I just didn't go for him pounding his chest afterwards. I never saw Willie Mays or Paul Blair - two center fielders who were better than Bradley Jr. - do that. And I saw Dave Winfield rob hitters of home runs by jumping and reaching over the fence numerous times with no chest pounding. I guess it's a different time and when players have a high opinion of themselves, humility takes a back seat.
  20. I imagine that Bird employed him because of his time keeping abilities. As time went on, bass players went on to other things - for better or worse.
  21. Forgot about that one. There may be others I've forgotten too.
