To my mind, anyone who's reached the age of 90 and is still creative - whether that be in the music world or in other worlds - and Benny Golson isn't the first and I hope he won't be the last - deserves happy birthday wishes, a tip of the hat, our thanks, or whatever we can offer. This is one of the strangest recordings in my collection. I think I play it once in a while because my listening has grown too comfortable. It reminds me that the world can be weird, indeed.
