  2. Closest I came to this was with the Bird Complete Savoy Studio Sessions LP box. I had listened to it a number of times, but about 15 years ago, I took it out to play and the last LP was missing. I couldn't figure out what happened, but luckily I was able to get hold of another box with LPs in excellent condition for a cheap price and replaced the missing LP. The missing LP has never turned up, so it's still a mystery.
  3. I'll add Thurman Barker and Roy Campbell. Spoke with them after a concert and they came across as truly nice guys.

  8. Very sad news. I guess one is never too young to pass away, but it seems so in this case. I've enjoyed a number of his appearances on Steeplechase, both as leader and sideman - especially the recordings he did with his father. Thanks for the music you gave us, Doug Raney. You'll be missed.
  9. There's a version of "Lonely Woman" on the Jazz Doctors; Intensive Care LP. Not a favorite version, but it's good.
  10. Teddy Wilson: Traces (Polydor) "Lovely" isn't a word that I use very often, but it's the word that came to mind while I listened to this record.
  11. Andrew Cyrille was one of the first musicians I had the opportunity to speak with - after a 1966 Cecil Taylor concert - and he was a very friendly and welcoming person.

    Jimmy Raney

That's a very good one, although I don't believe that it's available from Chuck these days. Sorry to take attention away from Jimmy Raney. I'll be listening to him later today.
  14. Reading through the Musicians/jerks thread, I thought it would be only fair to play up the other side of the coin. There are also musicians who are good, friendly people. I'll begin with Roswell Rudd. I've come in contact with him a couple of times, and he came across as a friendly, enthusiastic person with a big heart. Last November, I sent him a birthday card and a week later was very surprised to receive a thank you card from him saying that as long as I was listening, he'd be playing.
