  1. I watched a bit of it. Turned it off when Jalen Rose came on - an idiot who knows little, thinks he knows everything and will run his mouth all day long. The Fab Five were one of the biggest hypes ever foisted on American sports fans. None of them ever played on a team that won a championship - college or pro - except for Juwan Howard with the Heat, and that was when he was a washed up bench player.
  2. Doris Day Darren Daye Daniel Day-Lewis
  3. Good recommendation. As good a place to start as any - at least when it comes to post WW 2 jazz up to 1970.
  4. Lester Bowie: Rope-A-Dope (Muse)
  5. This is probably the most depressing post I've read recently. What makes it more depressing is that I believe it's true.
  6. Soupy Sales Barnacle Bill the Sailor Bix Beiderbecke
  7. I just figured that, sooner or later, most of the great live Bird recordings would be posted, even if it were limited to one per party.
  8. thanks. I have the Mo'tet already and enjoy that I actually like it better than the Mo'tet date. I enjoy hearing Bobby Bradford doing somewhat straight ahead blowing. The sax player on the Mo'tet does a lot to spoil it for me.
  9. Bobby Bradford Live with the Frank Sullivan Trio: One Night Stand (Soul Note)
  10. Elvin Bishop Steve McQueen The Pawnbroker
  11. The AACM has been getting some well deserved publicity lately with the release of Jack DeJohnette's Made in Chicago, so I thought it might be good to look over recordings by AACM members. Please limit your choices to three - I know that's difficult, but I hope that enough people will post so that a wide variety of records are mentioned. My three (and it was very difficult to narrow it to three): AEC: People in Sorrow (Nessa) Air: Air Time (Nessa) Muhal Richard Abrams/Malachi Favors: Sightsong (Black Saint) I'm sure others will list most of my other 50 or 100 favorites.
  12. Just did a search, and we did this about five years ago, but it's probably worth doing again. What's your one favorite Charlie Parker live (non-studio) recording? Mine is: Charlie Parker: At the Open Door (Ember) I'm sure it's been released on other label over the years.
  13. Simon Rodia Slick Watts Olive Oyl
  14. Lawanda Page Whitman Mayo Don Bexley
  15. Benny Benjamin Johnny Johnson Willie Williams
  16. Marcus Brutus Julius Caesar Mark Antony
  17. Mojo Buford's Chicago Blues Summit (Mr. Blues)
  18. Probably listening to stuff that numbs their brains and senses so they don't have to feel or think.
