  1. Any team that does is either foolish or looking to lose.
  2. The one time I heard Albert Ayler play live, it was with this band (Junie Booth replacing Alan Silva) in the spring of 1968. As I recall, they played some of the tunes from this album, but as medleys, rather than individual tunes. To my ears, that was more effective, but I guess Impulse decided that the record would be more commercial if the tunes were separated.
  3. Julius Hemphill: Blue Boyé "Kansas City Line" !
  4. Another classic!
  5. Beautiful solos by Fats and a couple of very fine vocals by Kay Penton, a Billie influenced vocalist who seems to have recorded from the mid 40s to the mid 50s and then disappeared.
  6. Steve Lacy: Clinkers (Hat Hut)
  7. John Carter Quintet: Night Fire (Black Saint)
  8. Water Coast Blues (Flyright) Signed by Honeyboy Edwards, who is one of the artists included on it.
  9. Cashman seems to go for offense. He just signed Sabbathia - Mr. 5 innings and out - for another year.
  10. The Clayton set features some musicians (Lem Davis, Charlie Fowlkes, Julian Dash) who are hard to find in settings where they're soloing at length, plus a lot of well known soloists. A bargain at $95.
  11. Always great to listen to one of the classics.
  12. Johnny Shines (Advent)
  13. If the Yanks had the Mets' pitching staff (assuming they were all healthy), they'd have it made next year.
  14. Bo Diddley: Have Guitar Will Travel
  15. The French Pathe Marconi label did a series of Imperial reissues. I don't know how many, but there must have been a few dozen at least.
  16. Now the Mets just need a team to play with him.
