  2. Problems I have had: 1) Not able to access my customer account after the face page; 2) Not able to track shipments per #1. (they often seem to ship a lot of items singly, rather than combining orders.) 3) customer service is almost non-existent. I did finally get responses to a couple of my inquiries about 7-10 days later. One response said they had no record of my order; two days later the item showed up on my doorstep. 4) a double CD arrived crack/chipped. No replacement, only refund. Told refund takes 3 weeks+ On the plus side: 1) cheap prices (do I need to go on?) 2) as the name implies, they have an interesting stock of import items. As mentioned already, if the item is stated as in-stock, should be a smooth deal. If it states anything besides that, might be in for a long wait, or no delivery at all. You'll need to wait the 30 days. I found it not possible to get an answer from them on shipping date (that's the one they had no record of). I would only order from them if they were the only ones who had it.

  4. Maybe this record i s a joke, but since John Cage, the conceptual uses of silence have been the subject of study: No Such Thing as Silence John Cage's 4'33" Kyle Gann, Yale University Press.

  6. I used to watch them more regularly and with more interest when the focus was sports, rather than what we have now, a seemingly never-ending procession of over-the-top human interest stories brimming with sentimentality. It's also hard to get excited about a match was already decided in the real world (but not in NBC land). Anyway, unless something interesting develops, like a really good hockey game, I probably won't be watching.

  12. Memorable performance in IN COLD BLOOD, many other fine performances. A sad ending. EDIT: CAPOTE is the correct title.
  13. I love the title track and the way it leads off the album. Listening to this one reminded me to listen past the Blue Note/hard bop formula (though the title track doesn't fall into that bag) and listen to the music/solos. That's been a problem for me at times in the past. Yes, I can understand that. That's why I like that on this album they went with the more adventurous title track, and opening with that (instead of a boogaloo) was perhaps a statement of sorts. Plus it's a beautiful piece. Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller John Gilmore, John Hicks, Victor Sproles. Limelight Japan LP. AFAIK, this is the only LP with Blakey and Gilmore (aside from a Limelight 7"). It's a nice date. EDIT: I was thinking Blakey leader dates, but "Blowing Into Chicago" brings them together.
  14. IIRC on the old BNBB the intense excitement over the RVGs, which would be the next title to get the RVG treatment, which title had already been given the RVG treatment in Japan and not in the US, etc etc. Then (or maybe concurrently) there was a lot of talk about the Connoisseur line, again a lot of excitement. Seems hard to believe now.

  17. Must have been one of those moments when time had run out and someone screamed 'For god's sake, what shall we call it? Think of a name! Anything!' Haha I like that. Also, maybe it was playing off the "funky chicken" dance craze; might move a few extra units.
  18. Ingrid Bergman Ingmar Bergman Bagman Spiderman
  19. I love the title track and the way it leads off the album.
  20. ABSTRACT - Joe Harriott Quintet --Capitol Dimensions in Jazz LP
  21. LEAPIN' AND LOPIN' - Sonny Clark - Blue Note/Toshiba Japan.
  22. PARIS BLUES - Steve Lacy, Gil Evans - Owl LP. Gil's choice of electric piano on a few tracks strikes me as a bit peculiar, although I suppose that was maybe an attempt at adding color (?). I think he's more successful on the piano. I really enjoyed hearing Lacy play several Mingus compositions, "Reincarnation of a Lovebird," "Orange Was the Color of Her Dress Then Sky Blue Silk," and "Good Bye Pork-Pie Hat."
  23. Rin Tin Tin Lassie Lasse Marhaug
  24. THESIS - The Jimmy Giuffre 3 - Verve LP. Giuffre (cl), Steve Swallow (b), Paul Bley (p). It's still cool to hear Bley on "Sonic" start playing inside the piano.
  25. I have the Shure V-15 Type V Audio Obstacle Course LP. Sounds like it is slightly different than the ones you have. I don't have a Shure cartridge; does that make a difference? I suppose I should give it a try in any case.
