I used the Expedit for 6+ years with no problems at all. That sucker was jammed with LP's with no discernable degradation. It's now in my son's room holding all manner of toys and books. I've since upgraded to their Bonde system which I've configured with an opening for my electronics and a hanging shelf for books. Great storage, low cost, super strong. I can post a pic or two if anyone is interested.

Now if I can just nab a copy of that Keystone box....

Thanks for the info wolff. I'm using a Spacedeck myself, but may have an LP12 available for rebuild so I may experience this in a couple of months. Looking forward to that set myself.

Well, it looks like my calcs are off. The site doesn't charge VAT so the actual price is higher than I thought. Oh well, I've only seen one other copy for sale so it should be worth the cost. Sidewinder... can't spin 45's? Why not?

Thanks Brownie! I figured at least some tracks had been released as bonus tracks, but I don't buy much on CD that I have on vinyl already. Guess that's one way to justify the expense eh? Dr. J. To be honest, I'm not sure what it's going to cost me with exchange rates, VAT vs no VAT tax etc... My guess is between $140 - 150. I checked ebay for completed auctions, but didn't find any.

Any thoughts on this set? Yet another 'net impulse buy... http://microgroove.jp/mercury/VSOP-Album.shtml

I think I've said it before, but modern, smaller profile styli can really overcome a beat up record, especially nice, old slabs of vinyl. I'll take a flyer on cheap, older pressings b/c I know my cartridge will, more often than not, ride the groove lower than most surface marks.

Sweet. A buddy of mine called from the music sales room in CES yesterday and picked up the two Clarks, two Morgans (Vol. 3 and Indeed), a Mobley, and one other I can't remember for $20 - $25 each. Not sure when he's driving back, but hopefully I'll see them by the end of the week.

Joe Henderson - An Evening with Joe Henderson (Charlie Haden, Al Foster) Lou Donaldson - Pretty Things (90's Rare Grooves re) Ornette Coleman - At The Golden Circle Vol. 1 (NY USA Mono I just picked up cheap) More of the Miles 65-68 Mosaic

Hail, spinlps wife!! Roger that! My sis came through too with tonight's listening... Dizzy Reece - Star Bright (Classic Reissue) Kenny Dorham -Afro Cuban (Classic Reissue) Already had the Dorham, but that's going back along with the Costello I already had for a few of the latest round of Classic Reissues.

Have enjoyed two recent additions to the bookshelves: 1 - The Mischevious Art of Jim Flora - Great album covers spanning all musical genres which Flora did. The title should be "The Devious Art...." based on many of the covers and freelance work in these pages. As Flora admitted, "I got away with murder, didn't I?" 2 - The Cat on a Hot Thin Groove - The complete collected works from Record Changer magazine. I've never seen a copy of the magazine, but I've definitely seen Deitch's work elsewhere. Highly recommended coffee table book nad excellent light "reading" during listening sessions.

OK, you guys... knock it off! Euclid's selection is horrible, they're prices are outrageous, and Joe is a schmuck!!!! Euclid is for us locals and no one else. They're strictly our own private "layaway" shop for vinyl... warehousing it for us until we can slowly buy all of the tasty vinyl.... so back off!

Finally (!) got down to spinning the Mosaic Miles 65-68 Quintet my wife gave me this Christmas. Jeez, I wish Mosaic would press LP's again!
-
My wife gave me The Studio Recordings of Miles Davis Quintet 65-68 box. Unfortuneately, the holiday schedule hasn't opened up any time to actually listen to it.

I'll add another 24 hr station in St. Louis. http://www.siue.edu/WSIE/frames.html A godsend during the commute! The Standards in Jazz timeslot always has in studio spots throughout the week. Most of the late night slots are sindicated though. The other NPR affiliate has an excellent Sunday Evening show as well. http://www.kwmu.org/Programs/Jazz%20Unlimited/index.html Good Luck!

Polar opposites here... Art Ensemble of Chicago - Certain Blacks (America) and an early Christmas gift... Heifetz - Bruch Scottish Fantasy & Vieuxtemps Concerto No. 5 (Classic reissue)
-
Spun along the same lines last night! Lou Donaldson - Gravy Train (Blue Label with RVG) Donald Byrd - Black Jack (Liberty RVG) also hit... Oliver Nelson - Screamin' the Blues (OJC... just picked this up and expected Dolphy to dominate, but Nelson acquits himself well) Cecil Taylor - Nefertiti, The Beautiful One Has Come (Revenant 3LP set on clear vinyl... another recent pick up... didn't own this in it's original form, but now realize how much I've been missing. GREAT set and highly rec'd)

Any idea who or how these cuts were remastered? Are they just straight "rips" from the CD reissues / issues? And another thing... Rhino / Scorpio just released Mo' Rock on an LP reissue so I guess it's not technically out of print. Edit: The Dusty Bastards list both the LP reissue and a Japanese CD reissue.

Leeway... Can you tell me a little more about the Melle? I have most of his BN stuff in one form or another, but haven't heard anything else.

Mulligan Meets Hodges - 1980 French Verve Reissue Randy Weston Trio - Get Happy With... - Jap. Milestone Reissue Sonny Rollins - Sonny Boy - Jap. Prestige Reissue Wynton Kelly - Piano Interpretations - 10" Jap. BN Reissue Lem Winchester - Winchester Special - "Limited" OJC LP - Just picked this up based on the rec's on the OJC CD thread. Glad I found it and will definitely pick up the CD's if I don't come across the LP's soon.

You mean I couldn't just return it? "Uh... it arrived like that... can you send another set? Ok, what about just the box?....

So far this morning: Joe Henderson - Mirror Mirror (PAUSA) Corea's piano really draws me into this session, moreso than on his own releases Donald Byrd - Getting Down to Business (Landmark) Another Joe Henderson session... Stanley Turrentine - Mr. Natural (BN LT Series) Not bad, but not great considering Morgan & Tyner sit in. Curtis Counce: Vol. 1 - Landslide (OJC) Really Harold Land's show to my ears. Thad Jones - The Magnificent Thad Jones (United Artists) Totally into Mr. Jones lately... some sort of special synergy between his BN recordings, the electronics and my room for sure.
-
Interesting, I have this as well, but my box is blue instead of gray. Any differences between the two? Seeing that box lead me back to my Speakers Corners reissue of Ella's Gershwin Songbook. Now THAT's a reissue!!! I've got the DSM prints framed and hanging in my listening room.

Thanks! I'm better now... although trying to explain to State Farm that replacing / repairing a window or exterior door in a Civil War era home is inherently going to be more expensive than doing the same in a modern day McMansion is certainly frustrating. That said... in the spirit of the thread: It aint Christmas till... ... I gag / vomit / dry heave from the scent of my mother's "friendship" fruit cake as I open the tin. ... help my Dad deliver the 30+ hams he has slaved over, usually for the better part of a week. ... the cats start puking up the bits of Christmas tree they've eaten. ... a mysterious box from Mosaic arrives addressed to my wife instead of me. Woohoo!!!

So far this morning... Mosaic Complete Horace Parlan LP 3 & 4 Thad Jones - Detroit New York Junction (United Artists) The Fred Astaire Story Box No wonder I choose not to work from home... I never get anything done!
