Son-of-a-Weizen Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 (edited) Does anyone know if any of the The Tubes first three lps (on A&M) ever appeared in mini-lp format -- 'Young & Rich", "The Tubes", "Now"......or even "Remote Control". Edited May 2, 2003 by Son-of-a-Weizen Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Wow; talk about bringing back memories... In 1975 after graduating from high school in a little town of 1000 people in Georgia, I finally made it back to the big city. In this case, San Francisco where my father was living. I walked into a comic book store (Comics & Comix when it was at the old location, closer to Broadway) and What do You Want from Life was playing. That was when I realized that I'd never have to deal with "Podunkville" again! What a culture shock... Quote
Alexander Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 I don't know that I've ever actually heard the Tubes. My one association with them is a memory of sitting in Bob and John's (a fantastic pizzia and wing place in the old neighborhood back in Buffalo) and looking at this woman with an awful haircut who was sitting a couple of booths away. It was one of those short, spikey dos (not quite a mullet, but similar) that was popular with the "New Wave" crowd back in the early 80s. She was wearing a Tubes t-shirt and she had a very small child with her. My first thought was, "They let people like that have kids?" The pizzia and wings were great, though. And they used to serve Squirt in these little green bottles... Quote

BTW, Tubes fans wrote the original book on child rearing...didn't you know? <<<<<I don't know that I've ever actually heard the Tubes. >>>> I'm a bit surprised to hear that.......thought the "arch parodists of the consumer society" would have been right up your alley? BFrank Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 They were a great band in their day. I saw them a couple of times although not at their peak when they were playing week-long gigs at "The Boarding House" in SF and getting rave reviews for their outrageous show. I probably saw them around their 2nd or 3rd albums. They still put on quite a performance. I don't think their albums quite do justice to the live event, but then again that's always the case. What Do You Want From Life??!? Quote
BERIGAN Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 I don't know that I've ever actually heard the Tubes.... Alexander, you have to remember this song from 1983!...And Weizen, best group from San Fran ever??? THE TUBES She's A Beauty Step right up and don't be shy Because you will not believe your eyes She's right here, behind the glass You're gonna like her, 'cause she's got class You can look inside another world You get to talk to a pretty girl She's everything you dream about... But don't fall in love She's a beauty She's one in a million girls She's a beauty Why would I lie Why would I lie? You can say anything you like But you can't touch the merchandise She'll give you ev'ry penny's worth But it will cost you a dollar first You can step outside your little world [step outside] You can talk to a pretty girl She's everything you dream about But don't fall in love She's a beauty She's one in a million girls One in a million girls Why would I lie Why would I lie? But don't fall in love If you do you'll find out you're gonna lose She's one in a million girls One in a million girls Why would I lie Now why would I lie? Step outside your world... But don't fall in love She's a beauty She's one in a million girls One in a million girls Why would I lie Now why would I lie? But don't fall in love If you do you'll find out you're gonna lose She's one in a million girls One in a million girls Why would I lie Now why would I lie? But don't fall in love She's a beauty She's one in a million girls One in a million girls Why would I lie Now why would I lie? Quote

chris olivarez Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 The Tubes were pretty nutty guys.Loved em. Quote
J Larsen Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 There's this old grumpy guy who posts on the SF Giants message board all the time. His screen name is fwaybill. I always wondered if it might possibly really be him. Just from subtle side comments he's made here and there, he definately knows a LOT about the 70s SF music scene and about the 70s punk thing in general. And he's definately in the right age range. He just remembers too many specific things about 70s/80s baseball to not be. As an aside, do you know what eventually happened to Fee? He ended up being a backup vocalist on Richard Marx records. How's that for irony? Quote
chris olivarez Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 (edited) As irony goes that's pretty good. Why did the Tubes break up anyway? Edited May 7, 2003 by chris olivarez Quote
