It has occurred to me that instead of having purchases mailed to me from the US to the UK I could have them sent somewhere in the US for me to pick up when I next visit. This would save shipping and taxes, if it worked. But is it possible? Can anyone give me advice on this - I would be very grateful. When I stay in the US it is generally for a couple weeks and I have a proper address as I rent an apartment. I could get stuff mailed to me while I am there but of course if it is late I will miss it!

Does anyone have any ideas about this or am I barking up the wrong arboreal object?

Alternatively, anyone in the San Diego area who would be willing to sign for a package for me? I'll pick it up in August...

If nothing else, it seems like you could get a mail drop set up for a couple of months before you come over and let the stuff build up if the owner/manager didn't mind; surely someone must have thought of this before and set up some kind of arrangement like this. It just makes too much sense!

Sounds like one for the USPS. It might be more expedient for you to get a general delivery address but I don't now. If I were you I would log on to the USPS web site and see if you can get some info on how to handle this.

If it were me (and it ain't, but if it were), this is the way I'd go. Anybody here live in (or near) San Diego???

David, I'm next door to Cali, if you have no success setting this up in San Diego, I would be more than happy to do what wolff is suggesting.

Also, I'll be in San Diego the first week of July, I could check with a friend if you would like.
