Brownian Motion Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 Does anyone have any information about the pianist Ray Stokes, who appeared on a few jazz records in Europe in the 1930s? Quote
brownie Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 No trace of this pianist in the reference books I have. The Tom Lord discography lists a February 194O piano solo session in Paris for the Swing label. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 Drummer Buddy Christian lived four houses down from me on Clinton Avenue in Nyack NY in the 1960s. Although I didn't know him, I knew Buddy was a drummer, but I've never seen him named as a participant in a recording session. I ran a search in Bruyninckx (complete thru S only) and found dates with Georgie Auld in the mid forties and a live date with Big Chief Russell Moore in 1980. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 Predictably, the Lord discography confuses Buddy Christian (drums recorded 1939-1980) with Buddy Christian (banjo recorded from 1922-1927) but gives the added info that the drummer recorded with Red Norvo, Joe Marsala, and Charlie Waldo ("probably 1970s"). BTW, all but the Waldo are in the Bruyninckx too. Mike Quote
