tooter Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 Can anyone tell me who are playing bass and drums on the live track "taking a chance of love" with Bud and Zoot? Quote
Brad Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 It's Pierre Michelot on bass and Klook on Drums. This was recorded at the Blue Note and they frequently worked with him there. Quote

Thanks Brad. I am just a little surprised that it is Klook - he sounds rather more prominent than usual for him. Perhaps he was feeling particularly ebullient that night. Quote
jazzman4133 Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 Tooter..............never doubt the jazzman. Quote
tooter Posted July 11, 2004 Author Report Posted July 11, 2004 Wouldn't dare! But no bass player. Quote

Perhaps he was feeling particularly ebullient that night. Klook live had a powerful sound, crisp but with a lot of warmth. He didn't want the drums to be obtrusive on a studio recording, so it may be just a matter of how he was recorded. I have some live recordings done only a few years before his passing where he blows the band away. The Savoy or Prestige studio recordings are definitely not representative, as far as his sound is concerned. Quote

From what I have read Klook was essentially a very kind man - somehow I can't imagine him being overbearing under any circumstances. Perhaps he was giving Bud extra powerful support that day - that sounds like him. Quote
