AmirBagachelles Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 I see copies on Amazon/Half.com for $30-40, which leads me to believe it could be out there for less. Anybody want to deal their copy? I'll bid a like-new Gene Shaw "Carnival Sketches" (japan, 20-bit) for the Rivers blue-on-white CD '96 reissue. Thanks, Dan Quote
jazzbo Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 You could look for the 1989 as well. . . the "Limited Edition" Collectors Choice release is simply a repressing of that original cd release. I haven't seen a copy in some time. . . sold my own copy a while back. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Undergroundagent had one ('89 issue) that I think he was selling recently. Might already be sold, but it's worth a try. (He originally got it from me!!) Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 The "collectors choice" discs are simply reissues of older "out of print" discs. It is amazing to me the "choice" reissues have some sort of rep. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Slap a name on it and people will buy anything. Limited Edition! Act Now! Bridge (1), good location. This way to the Grand Egress! Disclosure: of course, I have all of the "collector's choice" series - most of them I bought before they went out of print the first time! And yes, I was glad to get the opportunity to fill the gaps back in 1995. Mike Quote
bebopbob Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 You may want to check with Stereo Jack's in Cambridge, Mass. He/they had a couple of copies when I was last up there in early August. Good luck. Quote
Bluerein Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 This CD was also "reissued" as a bonus disc with the TOCJ-92XX series some years ago. It's the 24 Bit RvG which isn't available at all elsewhere. If it's this one they're selling online it's a steal because it's oop and not obtainable at all any more. The catalog number is BCD-0054. Cheers, Reinier Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted September 8, 2004 Author Report Posted September 8, 2004 No rep at all. A six or seven year difference might make a difference in how well the disc ages. There were improvements in CD manufacturing over time, yes? And I have a few old discs from way back that skip occasionally, or don't play in the discman etc. Quote
Aftab Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I'll look at which one I have when I get home - maybe we can deal . . . ? Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted September 8, 2004 Author Report Posted September 8, 2004 I think I found one to buy, thus I will still have the Shaw for trade possibly. Quote

There were improvements in CD manufacturing over time, yes? And I have a few old discs from way back that skip occasionally, or don't play in the discman etc. The gap is more like 3 or four years on most of them. BN pressed all the early cds at the Sony plant and by the time they got their own setup going, deleted all the Sonys and pressed some themselves, offered thim to retailers as a "one time deal" and called them CCs. I do not understand the "age issue". Beyond the defects from one plant in England and another in Italy, I have not seen any deterioration of discs to date. I have been collecting compact discs since the beginning and have had ZERO go bad, 'cept those mentioned (British Polygram still offers replacements but the Italian outfit pressed "mostly bootlegs" and does not).
