ghost of miles Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Just came across a copy of this on my colleague's desk, and it looks quite interesting--in fact, I've periodically longed to read a book on just such a topic. Anybody else here ever peruse it? It was written by Bill Moody & came out in 1993. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) Haven't read this one. Have read a book about expatriot black artists living in Paris that was fascinating, Tyler Stovall's "Paris Noir: African Americans in the City of Light" . . . . I bet this one is good. Me I finally started reading "Beyond Belief" and can tell it is going to be another good one from Ms. Pagels. Edited September 21, 2004 by jazzbo Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 And there's a great film on the subject, titled "Jazz In Exile" too. Taped many years off PBS. Don't know if it's on VHS/DVD. Mike Quote
mikeweil Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I have Paris without regret by Ursula Broschke Davis (Nathan Davis' wife?), which throughs the spoltlight on the Paris exile of James Baldwin, Kenny Clarke, Chester Himes, and Donald Byrd. Interesting reading. (University of Iowa Press, 1986) Quote
