porcy62 Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 I usually check eBay looking for lp sets, for bid or just to know what is the average price. I think there are Mosaic lp sets really hard to find at a "fair" price, or simply hard to find like Spann/Hopkins, Jones/Lewis, Mobley, Evans, Mitchell, Parlan, Walker. What is your opinion? Is it just a personal feeling or, for some reasons, they are really hard to find? Quote
wolff Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 I do not know which LP sets have not been listed on Ebay since I started keeping track, but here are the sets that have been listed just one time. porcy62 Posted October 23, 2004 Author Report Posted October 23, 2004 Thanks Wolff! I knew I could count on you! What I am thinking is that rarest Mosaics are usually part of big collections, and you can find them on ebay only when these collections are sold. Of course, some set like Mitchell or Parlan are probably rarer because of the few copy printed. BTW I won an auction for Blakey at half the price you reported. It worths look for non US seller, I spared on shipping cost too! Quote
wolff Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 Ebay UK had a bunch of LP sets a short time ago. Look familiar, Porcy? MR10-141: ART BLAKEY COMPLETE BLUE NOTE 1960. £138 Quote

porcy62 Posted October 23, 2004 Author Report Posted October 23, 2004 (edited) Since BN originals are far too expensive and I am not a huge jazz organ fan, I will get it one of these days. B-) BTW Wich cigar is on your avatar? A Montecristo n. 2? Edited October 23, 2004 by porcy62 Quote
wolff Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 BTW Wich cigar is on your avatar? A Montecristo n. 2? Do not really know which it is. I did not take picture and can't make out the band. It does look like a Monte #2. Quote
Leeway Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 Wolff, there's a fellow over on AAJ who is a cigar aficionada-- GA Russell. I suppose you are not he, but do you know of him or have dealings with him? Kind of interesting that both sites have their resident cigar fans. He has his own cigar web site: Russell Moon Cigars Quote
wolff Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 Yes, I know of him. He posts here, too. Never tried one of his cigars. Brownie, is another cigar fan. He even has his own mule that takes trips to Cuba. Quote
brownie Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 And that cigar on wolff's avatar can't be a Monte Cristo 2. The tip of the real thing is narrower! http://www.cigarsclub.com/monte_no2.htm To return to the thread subject, aren't the Commodore boxes the rarest of all Mosaics? Quote
porcy62 Posted October 24, 2004 Author Report Posted October 24, 2004 To return to the thread subject, aren't the Commodore boxes the rarest of all Mosaics? I saw at least three complete sets (vol. 1/2/3) in the last month. There is one complete set right now http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4046234398&rd=1 Considering the average prices, 1000 bucks doesn't seems too much!! P.S. I prefer Partagas 8/9/9 or Romeo & Julieta Cazadores. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 'Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions' in the LP format is one that doesn't come up too often. Quote
Alfred Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 To return to the thread subject, aren't the Commodore boxes the rarest of all Mosaics? I'm not sure. The Commodore box sets are just LP releases, 3.500 if I remember correctly. The LP part of mixed CD/LP releases is much lesser - maybe 1.500 out of 5.000?! Boxes like the Shank set never reached the limit of 5.000 units. When the Shank set went OOP approx. 3.500 copies were sold. The LP rate must be very small. Quote

jazzhound Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 I just picked up a McLean set for $186 on EBAY, quite a difference from Wolff's listed price. I wonder which is the more accurate value of this set? Quote

It worths look for non US seller, I spared on shipping cost too! I posted this in the Mosaic thread a little while ago. I've never been any good at turning a buck Not quite like getting a free Mosaic, but some time ago I purchased the vinyl edition of the Parlan Mosaic. About a month later, I got a call from Mosaic saying they were still holding my Parlan set, and did I still want it. By that time, it had gone OOP, no copies left. Had I been a quicker thinker, or a more agile "operator," I suppose I could have said, "Golly, yes, please send it immediately!" I could have probably doubled my money on EBAY (thus paying for my previous Mosaic). But being the honest soul I am, and not wishing to fib to the very nice lady at Mosaic, I explained that I already received my set. She thanked me and said they had one collector begging them for the set, and that this would make him very happy. I'm sure it did Made me feel kind of good too Quote
