One of the pleasant surprises on this album was a blues tune featuring Shirley on vocals. As a long time fan of her instrumental prowess, I was taken by her plaintive, soothing voice on this tune. Shrdlu Posted November 8, 2004 Report Share Posted November 8, 2004 As "Latin Shadows" was arranged by the great Gary McFarland, I wonder if it was Gary who encouraged her to include a vocal - he having felt an urge to sing on his own recordings a couple of years earlier. I base this partly on the fact that Zoot Sims sings on "Waiting Game", which was also arranged by Gary, and also recorded for Impulse, and recorded at about the same time.
