ii-5-i Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 I recently purchased Shirley Scott's "Great Scott" LP. One of the pleasant surprises on this album was a blues tune featuring Shirley on vocals. As a long time fan of her instrumental prowess, I was taken by her plaintive, soothing voice on this tune. Does anyone know of other vocals done by Shirley? Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 1 track on "Latin Shadows" (Impulse, 1965) 1 track on "Soul Song" (Atlantic, 1968) 1 track on "Mystical Lady" (Cadet, 1971) That's all that a quick skim through the Lord CD-ROM shows. Mike Quote
ii-5-i Posted November 8, 2004 Author Report Posted November 8, 2004 Thank you. Too bad she didn't do more. Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 If you like singing female organists, you can always hunt down a copy of Gloria Coleman's Sings and Swings on Mainstream. B-) Quote
Peter A Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 Or one of the (four?) great records by Trudy Pitts on Prestige... Quote
Shrdlu Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 As "Latin Shadows" was arranged by the great Gary McFarland, I wonder if it was Gary who encouraged her to include a vocal - he having felt an urge to sing on his own recordings a couple of years earlier. I base this partly on the fact that Zoot Sims sings on "Waiting Game", which was also arranged by Gary, and also recorded for Impulse, and recorded at about the same time. This would be similar to Pops encouraging Diz and Clark Terry with their vocals. Quote
etherbored Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 i own 'latin shadows' and can't for the life of me recall shirley singing... IF she does, it's the chorus chant of 'soul souce' at an almost inaudible level. -e- Quote
