wolff Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Michael Schumacher has been voted Germany's sportsman of the 20th century in a television pole. Germans elected Schumacher ahead of eight-time Olympic canoe gold medallist Birgit Fischer and tennis champion Steffi Graf. Schumacher has won seven Formula One world championships while Graf won 22 grand slam titles and held the top ranking in womens tennis for 377 weeks - a record. "I never would have expected an honour like this," Schumacher said of the result which polled 100,000 viewers. Tennis champion and F1 fan Boris Becker came in fifth behind Franz Beckenbauer. ALL HAIL THE GREAT AND MIGHTY HERR SCHUMACHER!!!! Quote

AmirBagachelles Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 How about Germans and Americans being limited to a choice of Jesse Owens or Jackie Robinson as Sportsman of the Century? Quote

wolff Posted November 24, 2004 Author Report Posted November 24, 2004 Steffi Graf got robbed. She could so kick Schumacher's ass. Claudia Schiffer is pretty sporty. Why wasn't she on the list? Quote
couw Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 Steffi Graf got robbed. She could so kick Schumacher's ass. yes, and Katarina Witt could spin her so dizzy she'd tumble and fall, and then Kati could rob the prize from Steffi. Schumi's already out of sight at 300km/h though. Quote

Obviously you don't live in a country where football is a national obsession like Italy. Every day I start with the barman talking about football in the morning when I got my first coffee, in my workplace my collegues talk about football, I switch on the tv and they are talking about football, half of the newspapers is about football, and you have all the gossip about football players' girlfriends....endless. Believe me, it's not easy. Edited November 26, 2004 by porcy62 Quote
