J.A.W.
As far as I know some of these have been available for some time. I picked up Deals, Ideas and Ideals and Come Sunday months ago (they're on my sale list, by the way ) Edited November 30, 2004 by J.A.W. John B
I have only heard Come Sunday, but really, really like it. I would highly recommend it.
David Ayers
Hopscotch seems to be reissuing these. John B
Cooper-Moore's solo piano album on Hopscotch, Deep in the Neighborhood... , is fantastic. I would highly recommend that one, if it is available.
David Ayers
I see that hopscotch have a website. The listing I got seems to reflect the fact that Sound 323 have just taken a delivery. I hadn't heard of this label, and I had never heard Tsahar, which is why these leapt out at me. I am listening to the clips - I'm not overwhelmed yet... Edited November 30, 2004 by David Ayers
John B
Also, emusic has Hopscotch titles available now. That would be another relatively inexpensive way to sample these. Tsahar doesn't get a lot of love around here. His work is a real mixed bag, imo, but the sessions that work really work for me. The ones that don't click are pretty abyssmal. brownie
I like Assif Tsahar! A provocative musician who sometimes fall flat on his face but he is trying! And when he gets going, there's a lot to enjoy from him. Of those Hopscotch records, I have the Live at the Juan Miro Foundation set with Peter Kowald and Sonny Murray which was my introduction to Tsahar and 'Deals, Ideas and Ideals' with Kowald and Rashied Ali. Things fall very much into their place on that one! And Tsahar knows how to pick his drummers!
