Durium Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 (edited) Early Bebop Scene Audio Park APCD 6101 A Japanese reissue that deserves attention. Great !! Read my review Edited December 8, 2004 by Durium Quote
Brad Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Hans, Quite interesting but I think as you noted in your review this has been reissued and is available from other sources. I know the Chubby Jackson material, for instance, is available on a Cool 'n Blue Cd of Chubby's. And as you indicated the Serge Chaloff material is on the Mosaic. However, the more interesting might be the clarinet cd. Has any of that been reissued or is this a first? Quote
Durium Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 Dear Brad, Thank you for your reply. About the Clarinet CD I can tell you that some tracks weren't reissued before and others are now very rare items to find. Read the review of Audio Park 6102 Quote
garthsj Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 I can tell you with some certainty that the Buddy DeFranco big band material is extremely rare, and I think this is certainly the first reissue of any sort that I am familiar with ... What is the best (easiest) way to order these albums? Garth, Houston. Quote
J.A.W. Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 What is the best (easiest) way to order these albums? Why don't you ask Hiroshi Tanno of Early Records, Fukuoka City, Japan: hiroshi@earlyrecords.com. Quote
Brad Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Hans (J.A.W.) is correct because when I looked at the website yesterday evening, Audio Park doesn't take paypal whereas Hiroshi does. This cd does look like it won't be cheap, however, $25. Quote
garthsj Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 (edited) Thanks guys .. I have written to Mr. Tanni ... I had four of those big band sides on two MGM 78's when I was a teenager, but they were left behind when I left South Africa in 1958, and I have never seen them since, so this will be some sort of emotional-nostalgic purchase for me ... Unfortunately Buddy started his big band right at the time that big bands were disappearing from the scene, but the arrangements were quite advanced, and of course his solo playing is, as always, magnificent! He speaks fluently Japanese and English, so choose one of the languages. seya@emc.tsukuba.ac.jp He can tell you the best way to obtain these CDs. Please give him best greetings from my name. He'll like that. Durium Quote
