connoisseur series500 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 The oddsmakers were correct and the Spurs handily won game 1 of the NBA finals. I didn't see the game, but it suddenly dawned on me that it would be nice for "the Admiral" to go out with another NBA championship. Robinson of course has been one of the all-time nice guys of the game and a truly positive role model. The Nets are tough and they'll make a series out of it; but it is the year of the Spurs. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 It was close in the first half... actually tied at halftime at 42. But in the second half I think the Spurs said to themselves, "Are you kidding me?" and put the hurt on the Nets. I hope they play every game that way and send the Nets home in 4. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted June 6, 2003 Author Report Posted June 6, 2003 (edited) You got your coach, Jim in Larry Brown. I'm a sixers fan and I'm glad to see him go. He's not a bad coach but I feel he did all he could already in Philly. Need some more horses and some more ideas. He's inheriting a good team in Detroit. p.s. don't forget that I live in Toledo, which is only about 1 hr away from you. We get all the Pistons games and news too. Jim Alfredson Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 I'm still not keen on the idea of Brown as the Piston's coach. I'd like to be all but I'm more like Like, B) you know? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Well after losing Game 2 the Spurs came back in Game 3 and stole one at the Net's homeground. Is anyone else tired of Kenyon Martin's showboating? Win the game first, then start gloating, you dumbass. Quote
JSngry Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Taking a cue from the Mavericks & Dirk Nowitsky, Spurs management took to the phones last night, frantically calling all over Germany in search of a certain Coach Heimlich... Quote
Jim Dye Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Only one word can describe last night's game 4. FUGLY! Quote
pryan Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 One must applaud Bill Walton for his unbiased and objective broadcasting . Seriously, the Spurs didn't need to have any fans, Walton made up for all of them. And what a numbskull that guy is, always overstating/exagerrating things, using such sayings he made up, calling one player (I forget who), "classically trained", making him sound like a musician or something. Oh, and his new favorite, "THROW IT DOWN BIG MAN!" Ya, the Spurs did choke but the Nets really let their "stranglehold" get away as well (a 15 point lead at one time). Go Nets! If only to spite Walton (gotta love how he was dead silent at game's end). Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted June 12, 2003 Author Report Posted June 12, 2003 Shame on me, I didn't see the game till the end. I still don't know who won. Hope the Nets pulled it out. Anyone can win this series. When I ran that poll, just about everyone including myself thought the Spurs would take it. I now believe that the Nets could win if they want it badly enough. Again, anyone can win. It is an interesting series. On the one hand, I'd like to see nice-guy David Robinson bow out as a champion. Actually, the Spurs are a team of nice guys, but the Nets are underdogs and...you just can't help rooting for an underdog. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Actually, the Spurs are a team of nice guys, but the Nets are underdogs and...you just can't help rooting for an underdog. Except that the day they call a foul on Jason Kidd is the day Shaq learns to speak French. Quote
