ghost of miles Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 A friend of mine & I were talking about this the other day--I hadn't thought much about it since reading an article concerning the film in SPY back around '92 (article is now online here). Like everything, there's now a website devoted to the film, in which Lewis plays a clown forced by the Nazis to entertain children as he leads them to the gas chambers. Bizarre... I actually wouldn't mind seeing it if it ever surfaces. Quote
Joe Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 I recall reading about this in THE GOLDEN TURKEY AWARDS when I was but a wee ironist back in junior high school. I thought it was just something the authors had made up. Quote
brownie Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 The film has never been released and it got reviewed by Golden Turkey Awards! Lewis-bashing is still a sports enjoyed by the US film critics! I am French and a great fan of Jerry Lewis. Not sure however that I would enjoy that one! The whole idea is pretty scary. But yes, I'ld like a chance to at least view this movie! Quote
JSngry Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 (edited) I read about it when Rolling Stone did a feature on Lewis sometimes in the early 1980s. Never thought that it would see the light of day. but now, if there's the beginning of an interest... Edited January 30, 2005 by JSngry Quote
BruceH Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 I remember that SPY article. It seems that where Lewis failed Roberto Bernini (sp?) has struck gold. In any case, that and The Oscar are a couple of movies that I wouldn't mind seeing out of a sense of morbid curiosity. Quote
RDK Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 There was, presumably, a screening of "Clown" in Santa Monica last year, but I heard about it too late to attend. "The Oscar" used to air fairly regularly on TV a decade or two ago - at least thatr's where I saw it back then. Written (though disowned) by Harlan Ellison, it is indeed a hoot - though hardly as bad as many, more seriously-intended films that I've seen over the years. Quote
JSngry Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago Any further activity around this film now that Lewis has passed on? Quote
