danasgoodstuff Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 I'm seriously thinking 'bout buying a '59 Studebaker Lark, anyone want to try to talk me out of it before it's too late? Quote
7/4 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 How much? Does it run? Do you have a garage for it? Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 $4,800. Rebuilt motor, brakes and interior. Runs fine. Body worn but straight. No garage. Quote
7/4 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 $4,800. Rebuilt motor, brakes and interior. Runs fine. Body worn but straight. No garage. Sounds mighty affordable. I live in NJ, I wouldn't buy it with out a place to keep it. Hmm...AAA Plus and you're covered. That's such a cool car... Quote
7/4 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Convertible? Two door? Four door? Wagon? Quote
7/4 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Convertible? Here's a '60. Did they make one in '59? Quote
catesta Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 For what it's worth, I saw a coupe sold for $2,900 a month or two ago. It needed engine work, and had some rust and body damage. Quote
catesta Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Convertible? Here's a '60. Did they make one in '59? I have no idea, it's just one of my standard questions. I can't find any pics of one, so maybe not. Quote

maren Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 We had Studebakers in the 50s: first this: followed by this: Quote
7/4 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 It's got to be a better babe car than my 2001 Merc Cougar. At this point, ANYTHING IS A BETTER BABE CAR THAN MY 2001 MERC COUGAR. It sure isn't working... Maybe it's the music... Quote
7/4 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 We had Studebakers in the 50s: For some reason, I can't remember the '50s. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 It's a 4dr (by the way did you know that at one point Ford called theirs Tudors and fordors, just for the history and literature majors out there). Nice shade of red it is. '59 was the first year for the Lark, gave Stude its first profit in years and allowed the board to diversify their way out of the auto business and save the stockholders bacon. The Avanti, beautiful as it is, is basically a Lark underneath and helped get them out of the car biz by losing $. Quote
sheldonm Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 We also had two when I was a small child; a Lark and a Hawk; cool cars! Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 My former coworker bought a '58 Stude for his wife a few years ago. I think he paid around $3000 for it. He kept trying to find out what model it was without any luck, and he took it to the local Studebaker car club. It turns out that it was a prototype. He was really blown away. These guys were making offers on it, but he kept it. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Larks were for smoking. Show me your Lark! Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 Great story 'bout the guy buying the prototype but I know Studes well enough to know I'm not getting that lucky? Any more info on what it was a prototype for (the GT Hawk maybe?) Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Great story 'bout the guy buying the prototype but I know Studes well enough to know I'm not getting that lucky? Any more info on what it was a prototype for (the GT Hawk maybe?) It looked like a short '57 Chevy. The car was confirmed as a Studebaker, though. It had small fins on the back. I'll email him and see if I can get a picture. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted February 18, 2005 Author Report Posted February 18, 2005 Sounds like a Hawk of some sort, looking forward to seeing pics. Funny thing is, I've gotten more response here than at the Studebaker Drivers Club forum... Quote
