ghost of miles Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Posted on a big-band board and re-posted at AAJ: Posted by Fran on February 03, 2005 at 12:36:16 In Reply to: Re: Mosaic Records- Complete Boswell Sisters/Connie Boswell Set?? posted by Randall Riley on February 02, 2005 at 11:47:03 I understand that the Connie Boswell/Boswell Sisters that Mosaic is contemplating are the Brunswick sides owned by Sony. These probably include the sides issued in the early 40's on the Columbia and Okeh labels. ************************************************** Posted by Randall Riley on February 03, 2005 at 15:33:02 In Reply to: Re: Mosaic Records- Complete Boswell Sisters/Connie Boswell Set?? posted by Fran on February 03, 2005 at 12:36:16 You are right, Fran. I was able to track down information and it looks like the set will be about three CD's, having about 80 tracks, mostly the material by the Sisters and those wonderful early sides by Miss Constance. The BAD news is that the Decca/Coral/Apollo sides aren't in this assortment... Quote
BERIGAN Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 3 cds? Sounds like a select maybe? Quote
LAL Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 I insist on a regular Mosaic, otherwise I won't buy it. Quote
ghost of miles Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Posted February 26, 2005 3 cds? Sounds like a select maybe? I hope not. I'm still nursing my disappointment over the Tyner Select... I'm grateful for the Select series and how it gives Mosaic the ability to put out sets that might not otherwise be economically feasible--ultimately, I want to hear the music. But the Selects are so relatively skimpy--usually containing only the original liner notes. Particularly in the case of the Boswells, I'd really enjoy reading a traditional Mosaic booklet. Mosaic has put out 3-CD big-box sets in the past (Thad Jones, Sam Rivers, to name just a couple off the top of my head), so the "three" number is not necessarily the Sign of the Select. Quote

Perhaps not, but I get the feeling that Mosaic doesn't think the smaller regular sets make sense economically. (I kind of understand -- they have less of a total price to spread out the cost of the box and booklet...) Quote
TedR Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 I enjoyed a number of Boswell cuts I heard on my Berigan cd's. But i think it would be a very slow seller at the full Mosaic price. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 I don't know Ted. . . there's quite a few fans out there. . .would probably sell as quickly or more so than the Mildred Bailey for example. . . . ! (I really don't think Mosaic is too worried about quick sales as long as they can over time sell the majority of the leased amount of copies. . . )(that's just my impression, no real knowledge). LAL Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Here's a short e-mail from Scott on the set. ..this would be Columbia and OKeh (Sony owned) sides. I'm still researching and don't know how we're going to proceed with this. If and when we do this it will probably be next year. Jazzmatazz lists it as a 1940s Columbia/Okeh set. Any experts/fanatics can render Scott some help? :rsmile: Quote
