paul secor Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 On George Barnes' CD, 'Don't Get Around Much Anymore', he introduces a tune by saying that wherever he's played - in countries all over the world - there's one tune that everyone knows. Take a guess - and if you have the CD, please refrain from posting. The introduction only lasts about 15 seconds, but I didn't guess it until the music began. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 I'm assuming he doesn't play "Happy Birthday"... Quote
Jazzmoose Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 I just cheated and looked at AMG. It can't be THAT one!!! Quote
paul secor Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Posted February 26, 2005 I'm assuming he doesn't play "Happy Birthday"... That was actually my guess in the time that elapsed before they started playing. Quote
Free For All Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 I just cheated and looked at AMG. It can't be THAT one!!! As played by George Barnosaurous? :rsmile: Quote

couw Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 must be the theme to The A Team or some such Quote

catesta Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 must be the theme to The A Team or some such This may be true, in another year or two. Quote
GA Russell Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 Well, he said that everyone knows it, not that they like it, so I'm going to guess Feelings. (My first thought too was Happy Birthday!) My second guess is The Star Spangled Banner, and my third is God Save the Queen. Quote
paul secor Posted February 27, 2005 Author Report Posted February 27, 2005 Flintstones? Hello Dolly? He actually does play the theme from the Flintstones on that CD, but that's not the one. If no one guesses it before then, I'll post the tune later today. Quote
paul secor Posted February 27, 2005 Author Report Posted February 27, 2005 (edited) Nope - not "Feelings", "The Star Spangled Banner", nor"God Save the Queen". Edited February 27, 2005 by paul secor Quote
tjobbe Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 Guaraldi's Linus and Lucy .... Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
paul secor Posted February 27, 2005 Author Report Posted February 27, 2005 Another good guess, but no cigar. Quote
paul secor Posted February 27, 2005 Author Report Posted February 27, 2005 Guess this has run its course. The tune George Barnes introduced as most recognized was "Sweet Georgia Brown". The Harlem Globetrotters have used it as their warmup tune in most of the countries of the world. These days, the Flintstones Theme might actually be more recognizable. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 I'll be damned; I didn't think of the Globetrotters connection....good one, Paul! Quote
