catesta Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Bummer. Another one lost from the classic era. Quote
Guest Mnytime Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Peck was more of the Star than the Actor but he was in a lot of great films. To Kill a Mockingbird is his best film. IMHO Roman Holiday really was more Audrey Hepburn. Since it was Hepburn's first film and by than Peck was a big star so Peck could have been first in the credits. But being the class act he was and knowing that Hepburn was the film, he asked that she be given equal billing for the film release. I was fortunate to meet both Peck and Hepburn a couple of times and really all you would expect. You can be sure that TCM will be having a Peck fest in the next couple of days God Bless, R.I.P. Quote
jacman Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 G*d Bless him. i'll never forget 2 of his movies: To Kill A Mockingbird and Gentlemen's Agreement (which my Yiddish grandmother called Gentilemen's Agreement). Quote
chris olivarez Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 I was delighted that the recent movie heroes and villians tv special named him the number one hero for his performance in "To Kill a Mockingbird"(I really thought John Wayne was going to bag that one). A true master craftsman and a class act. You can cite any number of Peck performances and be right but I'll go with 12 O' Clock High. Also "The Big Country" if for no other reason he lays a can of whup ass on Charlton Heston. Quote
brownie Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Gregory Peck was probably too handsome and too much of a gentleman to play great parts with iron-fisted directors (Hitchcock, Huston, Walsh). IMO he was at his best with impressionistic directors. Some favorite Peck films: 'Twelve O'Clock High' (Henry King), his best, 'The Gunfighter' (Henry King) comes real close, 'The Snows of Kilimandjaro' (Henry King), 'Roman Holiday' (William Wyler), 'Designing Woman' (Vincente Minnelli). In the last three, Peck paired wonderfully with Ava Garner, Audrey Hepburn and Lauren Bacall. Quote

brownie Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Gregory Peck had those 'Big' parts in films like 'Moby Dick' 'Spellbound' or 'Duel in the Sun'. I just don't think he was really up to those parts in this type of films. Quote
Guest Mnytime Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 TCM is having their Peck Fest in memory of Peck's passing. Though for the life of me I can't figure why they picked some of the films they did. They are not even including To Kill a Mockingbird or Roman Holiday. These are EST times and some have already been shown. 6:00 AM Man with a Million 7:30 AM The Great Sinner 9:30 AM The Valley of Decision 11:30 AM Designing Woman 1:30 PM Pork Chop Hill 3:30 PM The Yearling 6:00 PM Moby Dick 8:00 PM A Conversation with Gregory Peck 10:00 PM The Big Country 1:00 AM MacArthur 3:30 AM The Paradine Case 5:30 AM Festival of Shorts #17 Quote
BruceH Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 I like him in Captain Horatio Hornblower. (Directed by Roul Walsh.) Quote
