Hardbopjazz Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 How many of us, when the birthday of an artist that has left us, pull out the stash of CD by the artist and play them in remembrance? To whom do you do this for? My list is, 1) Wes Montgomery 2) John Coltrane 3) Sonny Stitt 4) Joe Henderson the 5th will be Jimmy Smith. I would do it for Bird, but WKCR does such a great job of this, that I just tune into them. I also caught last year's Coltrane memorial on WKCR. I will just most likely blast the radio for him from now on. Quote
ghost of miles Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Coltrane and Herbie Nichols. 9/23 and 1/3 are almost holy days for me... also Bud Powell on 9/27. I also play Elliott Smith's music now on the anniversary of his death. Quote
