Guy Berger Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Anybody else familiar with this place? They have 2 dollar cover for the Tuesday night jazz performances and there's a lot of variety in styles from week to week. Guy Quote
AllenLowe Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 last time I was there was circa 1996 and Wayne Escoffery was playing - I lived in New haven for about 20 years and the jazz scene was up and down - Quote
relyles Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 No I did not know about it, but if anyone interesting comes to play let me know and I will take the 40 minute drive south. Quote
Guy Berger Posted April 20, 2005 Author Report Posted April 20, 2005 Last night I saw a very cool guitar-sax-drums trio at Rudy's. The cover was 1 or 2 bucks but it was a lot better than some NYC gigs I've paid money to go to! They were pretty eclectic. One of the tunes was a very familiar standard over which the saxophonist played in a very warm, old-school way. They did a blues that at points reminded me a little of Miles's 70s band, and a weird tune that sounded almost King Crimsony at times. They also did Mal Waldron's "Fire Waltz" and a very trippy version of "Stolen Moments". Good stuff! Guy Quote
