mjzee Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Just wondering. A few sites lists it as "unavailable" or "special order." Quote
Bluerein Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 but in stead you can buy the nice newly 24 bit remastered digipack editions in the RCA Gold series (French based) which have all the extra material on it as well and sound much better. Quote
neveronfriday Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Hmm. I've got the RCA box (if it is the one pictured below we are talking about) and I'm surprised about the statement that the sound on the French issues is supposed to be so much better. The way this was phrased, those must have been remastered considerably because the sound on the RCA box is damn good? *confused* Quote
t brooks Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 you should be able to pick-up all 5 cd remastered for $50 Glad to Be Unhappy Take Ten Bossa Antigua Easy Living Desmond Blue and don't forget to buy[two of a mind] cd when your out Quote
Claude Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 In my view the sound of the 24bit french RCA remasters is not that much improved compared to the previous CD versions (based on my A/B comparisions of Desmond and Sonny Rollins discs). It is mainly brighter. But you should definitely get the RCA First Edition reissues of "Two of a mind" and "Desmond Blue", which have been remastered from different tapes and sound considerably better than the previous CD versions. To my ears the sound of those French remasters isn't that great, and I ditched them all. The Bluebird "First Edition" reissues are indeed excellent. I picked up Desmond/Mulligan's Two of a Mind and the Ellington, Mingus and Rollins CDs in that series. Quote
