AmirBagachelles Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 w/ Horace Tapscott. Anybody know it? It's available from Dustygroove. I am curious about this, as well as Blackburn's later soul/Afropop. Thanks, Dan Quote
jlhoots Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 Is this the same as Blackburn / Hill (Tapscott also present): Perception already out on Fresh Sound? Quote
relyles Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 (edited) Is this the same as Blackburn / Hill (Tapscott also present): Perception already out on Fresh Sound? ← Looking at the track titles on Dusty Groove for both it appears to be the same. Also, I believe the discography in the Tapscott biography only references one recording with Blackburn and Freddie Hill. I have the Fresh Sound CD and my recollection is that it is a very solid date. mikeweil Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 ...... as well as Blackburn's later soul/Afropop. Mombasa (the Afro-Jazz band) was great live, but their LPs never caught the sound and groove it had on stage. I saw them many times - Tom Nicholas, their conga drummer, was my first teacher. Besides, they are pretty hard to find even here in Germany. Quote
mikeweil Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 Here's one of them for sale - look at the price and Quote
mikeweil Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 (edited) Above was the second LP, this is the first: Really rare - I have them all, and could have them transferred to CDR some day, but the guy who does this for me will be moving soon ... Should add: The site from where I got the picture has sound files, so you can get an impression. Edited July 1, 2005 by mikeweil Quote
