l p Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Arthur Blythe 4/6/84 Village Vanguard, NYC 1. Stay As Sweet As You Are 2. As Of Yet 3. unk.title John Hicks-p Reggie Workman-b Bobby Battles-d is this the correct year. it's not listed on rick lopez' reggie workman discography. maybe more like 1994? thanks Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 With that band, '84 sounds right to me. Bobby Battle isn't really around much these days, is he? Quote
relyles Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Although Rick's other sessionographies for Sam Rivers, William Parker, Marilyn Crispell and David S. Ware are pretty exhuastive and reliable, the Workman entry was abandoned and is far from including everything even for the time period it was active. From what I can tell from a quick review, there does not appear to be much beyond commercial releases. That is just a long winded way of saying that I don't think that just because it is not on the Lopez sessionography that the date has to be wrong. On Blythe's 1993 Enja releases from the Vanguard, Cecil McBee was the bassist. Quote
l p Posted July 20, 2005 Author Report Posted July 20, 2005 but wasn't blythe performing without a piano player in those days? i have him in 1980-84, and his lineup is cello and/or guitar; drums; tuba. he had a steady group of sidemen in 80-82. i don't have anything with him as-leader in 83, but i have one item from late 84, and it's with his usual band (wadud, stewart, calvin bell). clifford_thornton Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Well, Hicks was on at least one of those Columbias, though I believe the drummer was Steve McCall. Quote
