How do you find time management working for you. . . music listening wise?

As years go by. . . less or more time to listen?

For me. . .it's less year by year, damnit. I'm hoping that sometime near the end of this decade that will change for the better; I'm hoping that I'll be able to work less hours (at least away from home) in the next decade.

Its been less and less time, especially this year starting with my recent job change and compounded by the fact that I keep downloading concerts at a rate much greater than the available time for listening. :(

Less time and I think the problem is compounded by our having too much to listen. I have tons of cds that I've only listened to once. What I've been doing is going through my collection and ebaying what I don't think I'll listen to again or would not really miss. It involves making some hard choices but I think in the end it will allow me to go back to things I've never really listened to closely.

Definitely less time for me. I have always tried to set aside some time each day for some "focused" listening (as opposed to more casual "background" listening, which for me is when I'm in the car or online) and have been finding it increasingly difficult to do so as the years go by.

Having recently become a homeowner there always seem to be a zillion little things that need to be done. My professional dues (writing, practicing) always need attention. Being married certainly takes away a lot of the idle free time I had when I was a bachelor (I'm not complaining about that one :g ). And we don't even have kids! I don't know how some of you folks can ever find time for yourselves!

I do know that even though I have less time to listen, the quality of that time has improved. When it becomes less available you appreciate it more IMHO.

I also don't like being so "accsessible" with all the forms of communication available now. Between my cell phone, home phone, home email and work email I spend way too much time returning calls and emails.

A while back, it was 'none', as in no time. Now it's less.

Sadly, it's easier to find time to hang out here than it is to listen. (Headphones at work are a no-no.) I find it very hard to carry music when I travel, and I travel 365 days a year. Even finding a place to store recordings is a challenge, as I have no 'home'.

Enough griping from me. Ultimately, I find that the little bit of time - 10 minutes a week? - I can set aside to listen is immensely gratifying. More pleasure-per-minute than when I could listen 10 hours a day, but less total enjoyment.

You sound like a prime candidate for an IPod, and maybe some noise-reduction phones.

Hope SOMETHING changes in that equation soon, if you want it to!

Yes, I don't know how those with kids do it. . . at all. My hat is off to them.

Brad:

I'm not really sure that there is a correlation with having more. . . even if I had considerably LESS I still would have less listening time! (I would NEED less, but still have less and be unsatisfied I think).

Come on retirement! (Never thought I would really look forward to it, but I'm actually lusting for it!)

I know I don't have enough time. Recently I opened a closet door to get something and I realized I had 1000+ cds packed in there, double stacked, double deep, of music I had long forgotten I had. Pathetic.

All else being equal, I'd agree. Unfortunately, where I travel, an iPod is likely to get me killed (in a robbery) or will be confiscated or taken by an immigration or customs official as some sort of 'tax'. Heck, they even take my ball point pens.

And Lon, it WILL change. I will make it change. Music is too important to live without. And it's not enough to be able to 'hum' "The Chase" in its entirety.

There aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done. My main interests are music, reading, TV & movies and lateley I've renewed an interest in politics - mainly due to being apalled at the current state of affairs. My latest car has a cd player and that helps a lot, but my ride to work is short and I've gotten interested in listening to Air America on that ride.

I'm reconciling myself to the idea that there are books and music, etc that I'll never get to.

Two words: kids. Meaning much less time than before. :P

But it is so sweet and encouraging when, while driving them to school in the morning, my daughter requests that I play some Dinah Washington.

I am retired so I play music a great deal of the time while doing many different things. I put on a CD first thing in the morning while drinking a cup of coffee, eating a light breakfast and reading the paper. I put on a CD in the car while driving to and from the tennis court. A CD is playing while I am getting cleaned up after tennis.

Music is playing while on the computer, paying bills, etc.

Just about the only time I am not playing music is when watching some television after dinner in the evening, or when I am sleeping.
