bertrand Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 I spoke at length to Cynthia Patterson in Customer Service at Fantasy a week or so ago. There have definitely been some changes, but the good news is that Concord has yet to make any decisions on how they are going to run Fantasy, or even if they are going to change the way it operates (although our conversation precedes the announcement of the RVG Prestige titles). I proposed that I would start a thread on the Organissimo board for those of us who wish to express our appreciation of all that Fantasy has done in the past, especially in terms of mining the catalogue for obscure titles and keeping things in print. I will print that thread at the end of the month and send it to her, and she will forward to those at Concord who are thinking about how best to approach handling the Fantasy catalog, and perhaps that will help them decide to keep things pretty much as they are. I have no idea how much customer feedback Concord has received, but I figure it doesn't hurt to try. So I will start another thread in reissues. Feel free to add your comments, but only positive comments please (no point in shooting ourselves in the foot). If you have any reservations to express, please do so in this thread, which we can use as a discussion board on the subject if you wish. The other thread is intended to be a 'why I like Fantasy' thread for those in charge to read. If you'd like, you can also e-mail some comments to Cynthia which she will pass on: cpatterson@fantasyjazz.com I hope this helps! Bertrand. Quote
Guy Berger Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 I wish Blue Note and Verve had reissue policies as good as Fantasy's. Guy Quote
Big Al Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Appreciate Fantasy Records? Three words: Creedence Clearwater Revival To borrow a cliche, that's just the tip of the iceberg; but it's where my appreciation begins! Quote
Ron S Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 (edited) I've spoken to and emailed Cynthia a few times in the past, and she has always been extremely responsive and helpful. And BTW, I'm pretty sure that she IS Customer Service at Fantasy. Edited August 20, 2005 by Ron S Quote
bertrand Posted August 20, 2005 Author Report Posted August 20, 2005 (edited) I just posted my first post in the formal 'Fantasy Appreciation' thread. Please feel free to contribute there as well, for that is the thread I will print for Cynthia at the end of the month. Bertrand. Edited August 20, 2005 by bertrand Quote
Bol Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 Not only does Fantasy have a very large and excellent holdings, I find its 20-bit K2 CDs to be the best overall sounding conventional CDs on the market. I eagerly await and purchase each set of new K2 releases, and I'm very frustrated at the slow pace of these releases. I think Tamaki Beck and the other Japanese gentleman who remaster these K2s have the most sensitive and reliable ears, and for this reason I am rather surprised that Fantasy will be beginning a line of releases remastered by Rudy van Gelder. I wish that Fantasy were doing more K2s by Beck and his crew. Blue Note's RVGs are a very mixed bag. Some of them sound pretty barbaric. Quote
garthsj Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 I have more than 450 OJC albums in my CD collection .... I have enormous appreciation or what Fantasy has done with their various catalogs. As a fan of "west coast jazz" I am particularly appreciative of their keeping the Contemporary catalog alive, and maintaining the sonic quality of that label (all fifties recordings should sound THAT good!). LONG LIVE FANTASY!! Quote
bertrand Posted August 29, 2005 Author Report Posted August 29, 2005 Reminder: the thread I will print and send to Cynthia is here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...=15#entry405139 This is just a general discussion thread. Bertrand. Quote
bertrand Posted September 3, 2005 Author Report Posted September 3, 2005 I will be printing out the thread referenced in the above post tomorrow morning and sending it off, so if you have any last minute thoughts or edits (remember this will be shown to the suits at Concord), this is your last chance! Thanks to everyone, Bertrand. Quote
