ejp626 Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Unbelievable -- only in the sense that you don't have a Sony behind you to promote the album -- and great, great news guys. It's always heartening to see the independents on top from time to time. I think you really will be cracking into a lot of markets now, particularly Chicago. I only wish I was still there to catch you at a gig. Quote
ghost of miles Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Man, you guys are clocking Frank Morgan and Bill Frisell! I guess it's already too late to say I saw you when... Quote
WD45 Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 According to Arbitron, WBEZ has an average of 29,700 people listening every quarter hour. If you are #2 on their spins list, just think of how many people are hearing it! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Now we just need those people to BUY it! Quote
Ron S Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 DAMN! You know, Philly's the 4th largest radio market in the US (after NYC, LA, and Chicago). You guys should use this Chicago hype to get some air time on WRTI here in Philly (which is, as I've pointed out before, where organ trio jazz really began ). As I've suggested to Greg, you should get some radio exposure here as a tie-in with a gig. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 WRTI has our CD. Not sure if they've added it to the play list yet. Call 'em up and request it!! Quote
Ron S Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 I will! But you should also push for an interview spot and playing time--similar to the Michigan public radio show you recently posted here--as a lead-in to a gig here this fall! With the buzz you're getting in other parts of the country, and a pitch about the illustrious history of organ trio jazz here in Philly (Jimmy Smith, Joey D., etc.), it would seem to be a natural fit. Sundog Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Great news regarding WBEZ. You guys should also send your CD to WDCB. The best jazz station in Chicagoland. They don't have the signal strength of WBEZ , however they have a very loyal jazz audience. I imagine that the word of mouth generated by play on their station would translate into sales. www.wdcb.org Continued good luck! Quote
RonF Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 One of the frustrating aspects of good chart position and airplay numbers is that, they don't necessarily equal CD sales. A couple of years ago Diana Krall's Live In Paris held the #1 spot in jazz radio airplay. That week, she had just surpassed 300,000 units sold. Gary Burton was sitting at #2 or 3 and his sales that week were 300. It's a loony tunes business. That said, organissimo is doing extremely well nationally - which is great. I just hope the trend reverses for This Is The Place! Quote

Moreover, Diana Krall has had huge T.V. exposure and she has nice legs. Hey Jim, any shorts? Quote

Moreover, Diana Krall has had huge T.V. exposure and she has nice legs. All true....including those legs! I was just comparing the bizarre discrepancy in sales of two artists on two major labels: One artist who, at the time, had crossed over into three or four markets and the other a jazz veteran with legendary status. Krall, the phenomenon, is probably not a good example. Still, many independents think that chart position means sales. It makes sense but it usually doesn't work that way. Quote

Of course she's a talented vocalist-pianist, but a lot of guys comment about how sexy she is more than the music and will buy her cds to look at the pictures of her.. Another female I think sold Cds more because her sex appeal is Eliana Elias... And then there's Rachel Z! Quote

sheldonm Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Jim, Randy, Joe & Greg: I was at the Jazz Showcase, photographing the past three nights "afterfest" sessions and what did I see sitting on the counter while talking to Joe and Wayne Segal?????? A copy of your new cd!!! Wayne said he received it as you guys may want to play Joe's Bebop Cafe. I gave Wayne the lowdown on the band and told him to really consider having you guys play. He told me he hadn't played it yet as they have been really busy but he swore he would give it a good listen. I'll keep bugging him about it! Good luck! Mark Quote

Regardless of where we end up playing, (and Joe's would be cool), thank you for your very thoughtful comments to Wayne. greg Quote
