I kinda like the Les McCann/Gerald Wilson version myself. As well as the composer's version.

I hear a killer instrumental version a few nights ago, but I can't remember who by. Tenor player. It'll come to me.

A beautiful song. Percy Mayfield's original is pretty hard to top.

Lockjaw and Shirely Scott do a good job with it. So does Hank Crawford.

I really dig Oscar Brown, Jr., I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for Tells It Like It Is. I have Sin & Soul and Movin' On.

I've never heard the original "Please Send Me Someone To Love", but I do have a version of it on this:

Noj,

TELLS IT LIKE IT IS is actually paired on the Collectables CD with another LP, IN A NEW MOOD, which is the original source for the Brown version of "Please." It's still in print and very much worth picking up. I'm a big fan of Brown and always feel that he tends to get overlooked in discussions of jazz vocalists.

As much as I love many jazz versions of this song (Jimmy Smith's).... Percy Mayfield's original version is just beautiful, perfect in every way. Gets me every time.

Well, funny I just heard a song called "Send Me Someone to Love", on my digital cable,(Never heard of this song before, believe it or not) was kind of distracted, but it was a pretty good version, couldn't remember which board I had seen the mention of it (2 boards, oh the humanity!) and by the time I found it, the song, and the woman's name was off. So Stupid on my part! There is a song listed as "Send Me Someone to Love", on allmusic, but she is not mentioned there...damn...I think it was recorded in the last year or 2...anyway, while digging around to see if I could find her name, I saw Fiona Apple did "Please Send Me Someone to Love" for the Pleasantville soundtrack...anyone ever hear it????
