jazzkrow
Dem Bastards at Dusty Groove have a 1975 session (Japanese issue) Jazz Bank cd of Art Pepper with a band that includes my man Blue Mitchell as well as Buddy Collette and Harold Land. anyone heard this one? Worth a pricy $21.99?
catesta
I've never heard it. With that lineup I doubt you can go too wrong. It's a backordered item at cduniverse and sells for $38.39. Edited September 28, 2005 by catesta
Claude Schlouch
Hi, Don’t spend more money than it is necessary. This session is now available on Lone Hill Jazz LHJ 10205 2 (2CD) titled “Art Pepper-The 1975 Garden State Jam Sessions” which include also the November 3, 1975 session at California Institute Of Technology”, but incomplete: Straight no chaser & Night in Tunisia are missing. Commonness to this label. Good luck! Claude Edited September 30, 2005 by Claude Schlouch
brownie
Claude, thanks for the tip. Will be looking for that double CD. It will be easier - and cheaper - to get this!
Claude Schlouch
Brownie, Tout le plaisir a été pour moi. A bientôt au téléphone. Bon week-end! Claude
jazzkrow
Thanks, Claude: I'll buy the 2 cd Garden State cds thru the Bastards at Dusty Groove. Just like them to sell both items-but no mention of the cheaper version.
Claude Schlouch
Hi, They didn't mention the cheaper version, but above all they forgot to mention that the Japanese CD contains only the first session issued on disc 1 of the Lone Hill Jazz 2CD set. As a general rule, the Art Pepper sessions issued on the Jazzbank label are of rather inferior quality by comparison with the tapes I possess. Well done! You made the right choice! Michael Fitzgerald
Sounds like somebody got confused between the GARDEN State (New Jersey) and the GOLDEN State (California). (Can we blame this on a Japanese translation?) Mike
jeffsjazz
THE SOUND QUALITY SUCKS !!!!!!!! I am a big Pepper fan,but this is bordering on unlistenable (at least the second cd). I will be trading this immediately, even if I bought it for 15 euro.Anyone want to buy it? Send me a pm. Otherwise listen to the Vanguard recordings for good live Art!!
