Soul Stream Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 How can you go wrong. Our good friends at DG come through again bringing us a combination we can't refuse... Groove Holmes and the Theme from the T.V. show 6 Million Dollar Man. NOW I know the reissue vaults have been cleared to the bone... Quote

Groove Holmes and the Theme from the T.V. show 6 Million Dollar Man. NOW I know the reissue vaults have been cleared to the bone... ← Ah shucks, this is going to drive me nuts. I remember the sound effects when the 6 Million Dollar Man runs fast (always in slow motion), or the sound that his bionic eye makes when it zooms in, but I can't for the life of me remember what the theme sounded like while the "we can rebuild him" narration was spoken over it. Must search for sound samples! I just happened to spin Soul Message yesterday too. Quote

Most of the theme is taken up by the narration. Quote
JSngry Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 When is Alan going to pop in to tell us that it's a "carbon copy" of "Invitation" and that Bronislaw Kaper should've sued Oliver Nelseon? Quote
Soul Stream Posted October 29, 2005 Author Report Posted October 29, 2005 Have you noticed T.V. Shows don't have theme music anymore. I saw a report on T.V. that it was too expensive. Too bad, there were a lot of classic ones, albeit not too many good ones after the 70's... Quote

Most of the theme is taken up by the narration. ← THANK YOU! Yes, it all came back to me after hearing that. It helped me recall the jumping sound effects too. (Also shot in slow motion. For a guy who was supposed to be better than before he sure moved slow!) Hearing the theme also made me think of '70s football highlights. Which of course were also in slow motion. Which just happens to be the speed I'm moving at this morning. Edited October 30, 2005 by Quincy Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 I loved that opening theme when I was a kid--half the reason I watched the show. (Same with S.W.A.T.) Hell, I may actually pick up this re-issue; thanks for the tip! Quote

Too bad; those themes often stamped their respective show with a clear identity that recent, themeless, shows lack. (Another one I loved was the theme to Get Smart, going through my head more often since the death of Don Adams.) Quote
Soul Stream Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 Boy talk about a cover killing what truely lays inside! Got this from the bastards today and this is one of Groove's heaviest funk sides! There's to orchestrated pieces that are lame (the 6 Million theme and another movie theme), but the rest is small group with Chuck Rainey on bass. Pretty badass stuff. And the LP reissue is gatefold with some nice liners by Nat Hentoff. Quote
