catesta Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Most of the reviews look pretty rough. I'll wait until it makes it on cable. Quote

Brad Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 It didn't get a great review. Guess I'll wait for HBO. Looked good on the promo shots though. Quote
sal Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 It is a very good movie. The drill sargeant portion really only takes up about 5 minutes of the beginning of this 120+ minute film. At the risk of spoiling the movie for folks I don't want to discuss the plots and themes from the movie here quite yet. But I will say this. It is a truely unique entry into the war film genere. There is really no other war movie out there like this one. It hits hard, and will stay with you once you leave the theater. The performances are solid all around, particularly Jamie Foxx, who is turning into a really fine actor. And like the other films in director Sam Mendes' catalogue, the visuals are stunning. Highly recommended. One final note: if you are expecting to see lots of "war" in this movie, look elsewhere. I won't say anything else. Quote
sal Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 One more thing....in relation to my post above. You'll find that most of the negative reviews are coming from folks who were expecting a "war" movie. It is, but it isn't. If you go in there expecting Platoon or Saving Private Ryan, you will be disappointed. If you go in with an open mind, I think you'll be pleasently surprised. It got many positive reviews as well. I'm going to try to catch this one on the big screen. Hey, if the scenery in Lawrence deserves it why not this? Quote
Dave James Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Believe me, Sgt. Carter can't hold a candle to this guy: Up over and out. Quote
