Guy Berger
On the free jazz section of Weather Report's "Unknown Soldier" (from I Sing the Body Electric), there's a second nasal-sounding reed improvising underneath Wayne's (smoking) tenor saxophone improvisation. Is this Andrew White's English horn, or Wayne overdubbing (underdubbing) his soprano? Guy

Guest akanalog
i heard some live stuff from white from about 1975 and i was impressed. how come he was such a fringe guy? seems like an interesting fella-played english horn on body electric and then took over for vitous on bass when the group wanted to get funkier, right? the live stuff i heard i think he was just playing alto at the village gate with some other dudes i never heard of but it was good. did he just get real into the scholarly stuff and not the performing and recording aspect of music? jazzbo
All I remember are those endless transcriptions of Trane soli (or is that someone else?0. . .and him feeling that he was ripped off by Weather Report, that he should have gotten lots of glory out of his time with them.
