Guest Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) Searching the messages here I have noticed a number of references to various Mike Westbrook CD's including Citadel/Room 315. The CD was originally issued back in 1991 by BMG and was deleted soon after. The good news is that with Mike Westbrook's approaching 70th birthday (March 21st), Sony BMG have decided to ressue the CD. The release date for Citadel/Room 315 is set for 27 March 2006. Other albums currently unavailable that have been mentioned in the forum are the Westbrook Trio's "Love For Sale" & The Mike Westbrook Brass Band's "For The Record". These were available on CD from Hat Art & Line respectively. "Love For Sale" was also available on a 2 disc vinyl set at the time. Currently the only way to buy these two albums would be to track down second hand copies. There are currently no plans to reissue them. You can keep up to date with what Kate & Mike Westbrook are doing by visiting the website that I update on their behalf at http://www.westbrookjazz.co.uk Edited February 5, 2006 by Chris_T Quote
sidewinder Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) Interesting to read that they are kicking off that Village Band acoustic brass sextet project next week down in Devon. Totnes is bit of a hike for me mid-week but its tempting.. Damn.. just realised that it clashes with Brad Meldau. Edited February 5, 2006 by sidewinder Quote
Guest akanalog Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 awesome news about citadel/room 315. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Yes, I don't think Mike W. has recorded anything better than 'Citadel/Room 315'. Probably my favourite of his, along with 'Love Songs' and 'Celebration'. Highly recommended also for the great playing of John Surman on this one. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Chris - Mike mentioned last year that he was seeking to reissue 'London Bridge Has Broken Down'. Any plans that you know of on this one? Quote

Certainly up there in the top 5 MW's but my personal fave is 'Metropolis' - incidentally I found the programmes for the concert at the Roundhouse in 1974 for 'Citadel' in my attic yesterday - must scan and post them sometime. Brian Godding has never sounded better! Quote

Nothing concrete yet Sidewinder, watch this space! sidewinder I have seen 'London Bridge ...' on vinyl in the shops a number of times, possibly on ebay too. It is, I am told, a three and a half LP box (the back side of #4 is empty). Some say spreading the work over 7 sides is disruptive, but as you are a vinyl junkie you may still want to go for it. sidewinder Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Thanks, I'll check it out. Not too long ago I actually saw a box set of this in mint fir £10 but the cassette tape version. Not my favourite format ! Quote
