  3. "The Cortège" indeed another must-have My first live experience of the Westbrook Universe in 1996 near my home town: "Off Abbey Road"
  4. I too had been hoping to go and hear some of Kate & Mike's November concerts, but with travel regulations changing frequently I decided not to. - What a shame.
  5. Hiya Bob & all, Sorry for being late to the party, I haven't been to this forum for a year (terrible workload on the job). Mike and Kate have posted weekly videos over the past year on therir own website. All are still avaible online. I'm sure you have noticed those and found out what you like. My favourite among Mike's three solo albums is "Starcross Bridge". I also recommend Mike's early album LIVE (re-issued on CD a couple of years ago as "LIVE 1972")
  6. Evan Parker Quartett - All Knavery and Collusion It's a beauty
  7. Aaah yes, thanks, the scoring pegs make it ever so clear. I'll stick with watching the snooker at the Crucible for now.
  8. Gotta love sports that involve a tea break. - I can't make head or tail of the score tables though.
  9. Listening right now - beautifully relaxed, just what I needed. Got myself a couple of Chris Biscoe's too while I was about it.
  10. Thanks mjazzg for the link! I'llprint it and put it inside my copy of the album. - I've been listening to the CD fo a few weeks now and am thoroughly enjoying it. This and the studio album stand side by side, each in it's own right. Good liner notes go with the new release too. There are some interesting & knowledgeable comments too on the original bluemoments page (without the twitter suffix in the link)
  11. Yes, I was curious to see/hear him with the band and would have liked to be there. - Hoping for that recording
  12. Thanks for the heads up, Bob. Great that you were able to catch that. This morning's trawl of the web came up with two new morsels of info: There will be a radio broadcast on NDR Info on 15th September (22:05 German time) about Westbrook/Rossini/possibly NDR BigBand https://www.ndr.de/info/sendungen/jazz/Jazz-vom-9-15-September-2019,programmseptember216.html (not sure if it will stream abroad) Also a photo of good-looking Kate & Mike preparing Kate's September solo show of her paintings in London: http://pigtagram.com/media/B0YAEyelrwr

  16. I ordered the Old Place CD from bandcamp and expect it to arrive this week. It comes with instant downloads of FLAC and/or mp3,so I very much enjoyed listening
  17. Howard Riley Trio - Discussions with Barry Guy & Jon Hiseman recorded Dec. 1967
  18. Thanks, the audience and the band were really happy. I hadn't noticed the Starcoss album cover is out already - release on 17th August apparently.
  19. LAST NIGHT AT THE OLD PLACE is the first thing I'll get when I'm back home later this week. Another three albums due this year: GRANITE - on 27th July (strictly speaking it's Kate Westbrook's album; got mine at the live premiere on 21st June) STARCROSS BRIDGE - due in July, new Solo album by Mike Westbrook, on the hatology label CATANIA - 2CD, recordings from the famous 1992 Sicily tour, due in September on the ENJA label see also http://www.westbrookjazz.co.uk/mikewestbrook/news.shtml
  20. 1987 Chicago Jazz Festival (Open Air) What I remember most was the noise made by the "audience" in the park. Most people had brought picnics and were interested in their own talk rather than the music. It was also the night when the Globe Unity Orchstra played their last gig (except for a reunion 2002 in Aachen/Germany*). I remember enjoying that one very much. ____ *to the best of my knowledge
  21. Only heard about it today, very sad. He actually played "A Bigger Show" in Exeter 2015 Lou Gare at Barnfield Theatre, Exeter, 2015 [CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0)], from Wikimedia Commons
  22. True, I didn't break the bank assembling that line-up of records, just took a bit of patience.
  23. Thanks, Bob, for this. - Should we then take out insurance on our Westbrook records collections?
  24. Two re-issues: Mike Westbrook - LIVE 1972 - If you have missed the Japanese re-issue or even if you haven't, as there are some bonus tracks. Mike Westbrook - 3CD Box Marching Song with Bonus CD
