7/4 Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Hello all, WKCR is doing an entire day of Ornette Coleman on March 9 to celebrate his birthday. Thanks PQ! Their web site isn't responding to access by me right now, but I'm looking forward to any rarities they have to offer. Maybe they could have Ornette come by and try to explain WTF harmelodics are. Parkertown Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Yeah, but right now they're playing an Irish jig... Quote
Parkertown Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Okay, we're now officially having a hoedown!!! Where the fuck is Ornette? Quote
Parkertown Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Oops, just re-read the first post... March 9. I am an idiot... Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Blue Lake will be featuring Ornette on Thursday evening, then Bix on Friday. Quote
7/4 Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Blue Lake will be featuring Ornette on Thursday evening, then Bix on Friday. Just like WKCR has been doing for years. Quote
ghost of miles Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Great news. It's Ornette's 75th, isn't it? Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Yes, 7/4. I've been at it at Blue Lake since March 1, 1983. I still don't know how WKCR gets around the limitations on streaming set up in the digital millenium copyright act. Quote
ep1str0phy Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Great news. It's Ornette's 75th, isn't it? If I recall correctly, he was born in 1930... so 76, I guess. I'm so tuned in. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Happy Birthday Ornette! Guess I should swap out this McPhee for some O.C. (Mischa Barton not included...)! Quote
7/4 Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Phil Schapp just took over. 17 minutes of talk and I've heard this story way too many times! Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Can't believe they played "Free Jazz" on vinyl. Not that it's a bad thing hearing the "flip," but there're a couple of good versions on CD..... Quote

Lazaro Vega Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 (edited) Didn't hear that. After about a minute there's children to attend to which makes the long narrative impossible to absorb. He mentioned 1975 and the multi-day Coleman marathon, said they sent a copy of the broadcast to O.C., and that's about as much as I got. What did he say? He must have played four sides of "Free Jazz" as I heard two "flips." ? Edited March 10, 2006 by Lazaro Vega Quote

I tuned in and hour later and he was telling his Ornette in the studio story again. Quote
