Lazaro Vega Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 (edited) The day after his 81st Birthday we'll hear Haynes with the Summit Meeting at Birdland; Bird in Boston, 1952; Miles first Prestige recordings, and J.C. live at the Village Vanguard "Chasin' Another Trane." For openers. Classic music right now and jazz after 10 p.m. www.bluelake.org If the WMP cuts out and on, find this description on the same page under the WMP, next to the streaming schedule: "If you are unable to hear the broadcast from your web broswer, please click here: Listen Now " Opening that link tends to flow uninterrupted. According to that great "Listening With Roy Haynes" in the New York Times his band is opening tonight at the Village Vangaurd and playing until Sunday. In lieu of being there..... danasgoodstuff Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Saw Roy at Newport this/last summer, he's (still) the man! Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted March 15, 2006 Author Report Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks for listening Uncle Skidmore. The version of "Impressions" from Trane's "Newport '63" is one of the great moments in jazz drumming. Nessa turned me on to that. Quote
catesta Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 I'm going to try and sneak into Manhattan Thursday night to catch Mr. Haynes and his group. Quote
PHILLYQ Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Roy Haynes recently sat in with the Allman Brothers Band for 'Afro-Blue'. According to the review I saw, everyone laid out and let RH solo, and the band wound up standing around the drumset watching the master at work. 81 and still kickin' butt Quote
sheldonm Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Saw him last summer; here is a photo I made from that show!!! m~ Quote
