Hardbopjazz Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 (edited) Here's a chance to see a legend. She's been at this for too many years to count. Anyone plan on checking her out either of these days? I'll be there for at least one show. Edited April 1, 2006 by Hardbopjazz Quote
Ron S Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I saw her last year on the same bill with another legend, Dave Brubeck. She had to be helped to and from the piano, but her playing was marvelous. Not surprisingly, she also tells some terrific stories. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 Hey Hardie, is there a reason for your typos? Is this supposed to be an "attention getter" or do you have a problem? Quote
marcello Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 You know I like Marian, and have had the pleasure of both seeing and speaking to her many times in the '70's, when she spent a lot of time here with Alec Wilder. But....a legend? Does being old make you a legend? I realize that she didn't ask for it, and not to be too cruel, but if Ms. McPartland is the standard bearer for this music, and held up as a icon,....this music is in trouble. That said, she plays pretty well and some of her compositions are delightful. I'm sure she will pack the house for Todd, and that's good. Quote
Allan Songer Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 Her radio show was BITCHIN'. For that alone she gets a big thumbs up from me. I heard her perform once about 20 years ago. It was a fun, swinging evening. But a "legend" she is not. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I like(d) the radio show, and I think she's done a lot for the music. I wouldn't exactly put her in the same category as Brubeck or anybody else of "legendary" status, either. But she's cool. Quote
Guest akanalog Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 chuck i was also curious about the typos-hey, they got me to check out this thread. Quote
