Jim Alfredson Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 What a dickhead: http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../604060384/1003 They should've convicted him of that second degree murder charge. Quote
Noj Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 (edited) It is irritating that the courts will even hear such a case. Shouldn't they just tell this guy to go bugger himself? If I were in charge I'd invite the late Officer Davis' family down to take a few free swings while escorting him out of the courtroom. I've always found it irritating that people have been allowed to sue others for their own stupidity. Often places I would try to skateboard at would be off limits because people were afraid I'd get hurt and sue. Huh? Why the hell should anyone be allowed to hurt one's self skateboarding and sue someone else for it? This is where personal responsibility has been whittled away. No one should be able to sue for something which is one's own damned fault! Edited April 6, 2006 by Noj Quote
catesta Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 This fuckhead only got 93 days for killing a cop and now he's going to sue???!!!! He should be kissing major ass not pissing people off. What a joke. The sad thing is, he probably has a chance of winning. Quote

What a joke. The sad thing is, he probably has a chance of winning. Only by playing on the public's hatred of the police. I'm appalled that the court would even be willing to listen to this case, but it's also entirely possible that the case will be tossed out, in which case the moron and his attorney ought to be fined for abuse of the court system. Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 (edited) Let me ask those outraged at this lawsuit a question: What if the driver of the vehicle was sober? Would this lawsuit be "OK" then? Yeah, a drunk driver filing this lawsuit is pretty dumb if he thinks he's got a chance at winning, but someone's got to get the police to implement a policy change to stop this from happening again. Maybe it'll be your wife and child who gets killed when the next cop pulls a U turn on a highway? This cop pulled a U turn in the middle of a highway and got killed. He did screw up and he paid the ultimate price for this screw up. If this lawsuit gets a couple of other cops to think a half second before doing this in the future, then maybe something good can come of this moron's lawsuit. I've seen the police pull stunts like this and nearly cause multi-car pile-ups... at 7:30 in the morning and everyone sober. If a friend or family member got killed because of an asinine stunt by a stupid cop, I'd be pretty upset. Edited April 7, 2006 by Kevin Bresnahan Quote

The cop may have screwed up - but we have no way of knowing whether or not the accident would have happened if the driver were sober. The mitigating circumstances are obviously why the driver wasn't charged with a more serious crime. He may feel that he has been unfairly branded a cop-killer, but the blood alcohol level trumps any other considerations, in my opinion. Quote

It's a totally different situation if the guy is not drunk. Quote
Shawn Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 (edited) Only by playing on the public's hatred of the police. Which depending on where you live, can be a pretty powerful hatred! The guy in this story is an ass...but I've seen cops do STUPID shit on the roads. One of the dumbest individuals I've ever met was this moron in High School...must have had an IQ of about 50...he's now a deputy sheriff of an entire county. This guy had to take 12th grade 3 times!!!! Doesn't instill much confidence in ye old men in Blue... Edited April 7, 2006 by Shawn Quote
