I've been thinking about picking it up--has anybody heard it yet? Billy Hart I just got it last week and had a chance to listen to it a couple of times during the commute. My initial reaction to the music is very positive. The quartet has played together a bit the past couple of years and there is a certain cohesiveness that is audible. None of the compositions made strong impression on first hearing, but the playing by the entire group is good. Basically straight ahead playing with a little bite, but completely accesible. Most of the compositions are by Hart and if you heard his compositions on any of his previous recordings, these are fairly similar. Overall the recording probably will not blow you away, but it gets better with repeated listenings and fans of any of the musicians involved, in particular Mark Turner, should be satisfied.
