randissimo Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 (edited) Hey Guys, FYI I was hangin' with Joel (Spyro Gyra) today, before their gig in Monroe ( they were excellent as usual) and he mentioned to me that he and Julio really liked the CD Joe laid on him at the Pontiac gig. He said most of the time stuff people give them to listen to is boring but they listened to your entire CD on their drive up north from that gig! They dug it. I know it would have been better comming directly from them but, I didnt say a word to him about it. He brought it up. Just thought you might like to know. keep on groovin' FM that's very cool.. it's nice to know cats at that level of success dig our sound.. now all we gotta do is get somebody like metheny to listen to the cd! Rooster_Ties Posted August 11, 2003 Author Report Posted August 11, 2003 (edited) now all we gotta do is get somebody like metheny to listen to the cd! Well, Pat's older brother Mike lives here in Kansas City, and is very active on the local jazz scene (he’s a trumpeter, with a small handful of leader dates under his belt). I'm sure I could easily pass your disc along to him sometime. Best guess is that it would probably NOT be good to specifically ask him to pass it on to Pat, but rather just hope that he digs the CD so much that he feels compelled to give his bro one. (I'm guessing he's real tired of people going through him to get to Pat. Or who knows, maybe not?? - I could check with some other people who actually know Mike.) I'd be glad to strategize this with you (maybe think of some other ideas), if getting Pat to hear your disc really is of some value to you guys. Also, I know several local guys (musicians mostly) that actually know Mike (and have played with him dozens of times over the years), if that's maybe a better angle to take. (I've never actually spoken with Mike before, though I've heard him play several times.) Edited August 11, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Joe G Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Thanks Brad, that is cool to know. Joel and Julio seem like really nice cats. Good players, too. IMO, the best we would hope for from Pat hearing the disc is a "keep up the good work" kind of a thing. He's not in the business of promoting other musicians as far as I'm aware, and what could he do anyway? Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I don't think Warner Bros. would be interested in us... (I don't think I'd be interested in them, either! F**k the majors! ) Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 I don't know if getting our discs to musicians does any good other than maybe getting some praise from them (a quote or two for our promotional materials would be nice, for instance). Musicians are looking out for themselves. They aren't in the business of promoting other musicians. Jazz isn't like rock in that bands have opening bands and such. We need to get our CD in the hands of someone inside the business or at a nice independent label that can take us to the next level. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 I just lowered the price of the CD on CDBaby.com to $11.99. Now's the time to act!!!! Quote

Joe G Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Rock On Chaka Kahn! (That means "thanks" or "way to go" in organissimo-speak). Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 27, 2003 Author Report Posted August 27, 2003 I consulted the diocese and they agreed that four to six CDs plus two Hail Mary's would be adequate. The SIX Organissimo discs I ordered came in the mail TODAY. Listening to mine right now... Also, let me know what paperwork I need to file, (and where to send it) -- in order to qualify to get this particular sin absolved. Or maybe there some sort of on-line form I can fill out, on the main Organissimo.org site?? (But if there is one there, I couldn't find it. ) Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 We're cutting back on the paperwork. I received the email from CDBaby about your order, so that's enough for me. Sin absolved, all is forgiven my son. Bless you. Quote
