Chuck Nessa Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 This '56 classic/piece of crap is on tonight for you interested parties. Jayne Mansfield, Edmond O'Brien and Tom Ewell are listed as the "stars" but the real stars are (in no particular order) Fats Domino. Julie London, Little Richard, the Platters, Ray Anthony, Gene Vincent, the Treniers, Eddie Cochran and Abbey Lincoln. All in glorious color. Those were the days. Quote
medjuck Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 This '56 classic/piece of crap is on tonight for you interested parties. All in glorious color. Those were the days. And Cinemascope. I hope you can get it in wide-screen. I say it's a classic. Quote
BruceH Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 You can tell that it's directed by a guy who used to direct cartoons, but yeah, I'd call it a classic of sorts. And probably the most impressive collection of live r'n'b and early rock'n'roll talent in any 50's film. I was surprised to see some rather obscure groups in it as well. (Perhaps they were big at the time...) But the Treniers, Fats Domino, Little Richard---WOW!!! Quote
Stereojack Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Have seen it many times, always enjoy it. It's probably the only 50's rock & roll film with name actors and high production values. "Rock pile dust is in my shoes........." Quote
brownie Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 An old favorite from director Frank Tashlin. As much as I enjoy watching the various artists perform, the main attraction of the film remains Jayne Mansfield Quote
