Cecil Payne

Here's one of Cecil's albums from the

late 1960's on the Strata-East label that I especially enjoy.

It has a much more explorative/spiritual feel than his more recent releases.

I also really like his composition entitled "Brookfield Andante" which

was issued on his Spotlite release of the same name. I have it on

a live radio broadcast from the mid-1960's.

Cecil, not unlike many jazz artists, has gone through a few

metamorphoses before "fixing" his style (Frank Foster is another

that comes to mind). I enjoyed all of them!

Instead of making a new thread, I thought I'd bump this one up with a discographical question on a recording of Payne's. I'm trying to figure out the songs and personnel from Cecil Payne's 1956 Signal recording, simply entitled Cecil Payne. The catalog # is Signal 1203. Half of this session had Kenny Dorham, and I have that part, but I don't know the other half. Anyone here with the original vinyl? I'm assuming this album is comprised of two different sessions, but I could be wrong ...

Thanks for the help!
