Of course, another draw of this festival are the after-festival jams every night in some of the clubs. I had a great time at the Jazz Showcase jams hosted by Ira Sullivan last time, and I hope he'll be back again this year.

Let me know if you're planning to attend the festival and maybe we can hook up.

I'll be there for the whole shootin' match. Ira has been a mainstay during Jazz Fest week and most likely will be again.

An addition to the festival is our own Larry Kart.............performing with Lee Konitz!!!

On Thursday, August 31, former Chicago Tribune jazz critic and author of Jazz In Search Of Itself, Larry Kart, will join this year's Chicago Jazz Festival Artist-in-Residence, Lee Konitz, at 5:00 p.m. in a discussion of Konitz's long and fabled career, followed by a rare solo saxophone performance. The event is free and will take place at the Chicago Cultural Center, Preston Bradley Hall (78 E. Washington). Call 312-744-6630 or visit www.chicagoculturalcenter.org for more information.

Where is everybody staying? Any tips on accomodations -- location, price, etc.?

During the Chicago blues fest, a friend of mine always stays at the Ohio House Hotel on La Salle. Brings his bike, and just rides to wherever the music was that day. Says the rooms were small, clean, and (relatively) affordable.

I'll be at the festival every minute of every day!

i, on the other hand, will take periodic naps to bolster my constitution, much to the chagrin of my chaperone above.

...don't you mean "non-stop"? I find it hard to sleep while there is good music being played somewhere! I was in Chicago late last night and was listening to Chicago public radio on the ride home and they mentioned Organissimo several times as playing at this years festival and then kicked into one of their tunes off the latest cd!

Just don't sleep through the good shows this year, and wake up for the likes of artists like Marcus Strickland!

How so did Vandermark do this? I wasn't there last night, but IMO Dave Rempis is a much better saxophonist.

It was another tenor player with blond hair; can't recall his name....I'll post a photo of the guy tonight. He flipped him off while playing at the Velvet after the Millennium gig. If was done in jest as they both laughed! Rempis was good as well!
